For almost a century, we have supported the families of those who gave their life or health for their country.
Sydney Legacy was formed in 1926 and has for more than 90 years ‘kept the promise’ to care for our veteran’s families.
Sydney Legacy consists of 15 metropolitan divisions covering the whole of Sydney and regional divisions – in Bathurst, Blue Mountains, Griffith, Leeton, Lithgow, Mid North Coast, Moree, Mudgee North West and Southern Highlands.
Legacy holds annual recreational camps and holidays as a fundamental way of creating friendships and bonds.
Legacy understands families and individuals can have difficulty covering bills and expenses following the death of a family member and Legacy may be able to offer financial assistance where needed.
Legacy assists with education costs, school uniforms, laptops and much more. Legacy can help support after-school activities such as music, art, karate, or sports.
Legacy can assist families with filling out paperwork and making claims through Department of Veterans’ Affairs; as well as advocate to government on their behalf.
Sydney Legacy cares for over 6,000 widows in our area.
Sydney Legacy cares for 131 children and 295 persons with a disability.
Our community is supported by over 400 dedicated Legatees.
Luke Gavin was tragically killed half way through a deployment in Afghanistan when an Afghan soldier opened fire, killing Luke and two other soldiers, and wounding several others. Luke leaves behind his beautiful family; wife, Jacky, and children, Joshua, Holly and Olivia.

Being a Legatee is the most rewarding endeavour of my life. It makes me proud of my country when I see the enthusiasm and compassion volunteers bring to their roles as Legatees. I also see just how much enjoyment and fulfilment they get out of it.
