The Legacy flame has reached Australia as part of The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay with the first three relays taking place in Western Australia.

First stop was Albany which is a place deeply rooted in Australia’s military history as it was the last port of call for many ANZACs during WWI. The relay began with an escort from the 10th Light Horse Albany troop who brought the lantern flame along the beach, followed by a fly over from the Royal Australian Air Force. Former Governor of WA, the Honourable Kim Beazley was our first Australian torch bearer.

The Fremantle leg of the relay started at Point Water Jetty and was carried by over 30 torch bearers before ending at the Fremantle War Memorial. One of our torch bearers was Paralympian Joshua Hofer OAM who was walking in memory of his grandfather who was a WWII veteran.

Perth was the final relay for Western Australia. The Honourable Matt Keogh, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel was one of our torch bearers as well as The Honourable Andrew Hastie, former Minister of Defence and Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas. The relay ended with a Community Day at Wellington Park.

Thank you to all of our torch bearers and volunteers for making these relays possible.

The Legacy flame will now make its way to South Australia.
