Toowoomba and Ipswich have welcomed the Legacy flame as the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay continues to make its way down the east coast.

The Toowoomba leg of the relay started at Picnic Point and briefly stopped at Mothers’ Memorial where a centenary commemorative plaque was unveiled, dedicated to veterans and their families. Mothers’ Memorial is significant as it is one of the very few memorials that was commissioned by mothers to honour their soldier sons who did not return from WW1.

After the ceremony, the Torch continued its journey throughout the city before concluding at Ruthven Street Park with the lighting of the cauldron.

Next up was Ipswich where 20 torch bearers carried the flame throughout the town, starting at Amberley District State School. After travelling a 9km route, the relay concluded at Ipswich Legacy Club with the lighting of the cauldron.

Whilst in Ipswich we were honoured to visit the Amberley RAAF Base. It was great to meet some of our Defence Force personnel who have been walking behind the torch as part of a tri-service escort. We also had the chance to visit the Army Museum of Aviation in Oakey. We would like to thank the Australian Defence Force for these opportunities.

A huge thank you to all of our torch bearers for making these relays so special.

Next up…Gold Coast!
