Legacy recognises and applauds the Australian Government’s response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide
Legacy recognises the Australian Government’s response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
For nearly 100 years, Sydney Legacy Legatees and volunteers have played a key role in our ability to help veterans’ families carry on with their lives after the loss or injury of a loved one.
Legacy’s mission is made possible through the hands and hearts of more than 4,000 Legatees and 700 volunteers statewide.
National Volunteer Week (NVW), Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering (16 – 22 May 2022), is a chance to celebrate the impact of volunteer service in our community.
From checking in with a family or individual that Legacy helps, raising awareness for Legacy and collecting donations, lending a listening ear to our beneficiaries through Legacy Line and assisting with clerical tasks – Legatees and volunteers are the backbones of our organisation.
Volunteers are especially crucial during Legacy’s signature campaign times, such as Anzac Day or Legacy Week, providing an extra pair of hands to help us continue our work.
In the lead up to Anzac Day, over 180 volunteers assisted with cutting rosemary sprigs and distributing them to the public at a number of events, including the St. George Illawarra Dragons Anzac Day match, the West Tigers Anzac Day match, the Sydney CBD Dawn Service, Bondi Dawn Service, Pitt St Mall, Anzac Memorial and Hyde Park and Sydney Domestic Airport.
To celebrate all the great things our volunteers do for us and to recognise their valuable support, Sydney Legacy is hosting a volunteer appreciation event on 19 May 2022 at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park for volunteers who have contributed their time to Sydney Legacy over the past 12 months.
Volunteers are our greatest resource, Legacy would not be able to continue our work without them.
