69th Legacy Mercedes-Benz Adelaide Race Day (2017)

Another awesome day at the races!

Legacy thanks the South Australian Jockey Club, who for 69 years have supported and given us the opportunity to bring our Legacy Race Day to life and to raise the much needed funds to help continue the work of providing care and support services to the Legacy Club of Adelaide’s 6071 Widows, 77 children and 72 persons with disability throughout South Australia and Broken Hill.

This event owes its growing success to the following amazing supporters:

Major Sponsor

Mercedes-Benz Adelaide

Race Name Sponsors

Penna Michael
Wolf Blass
Consolidated Mining and Civil
Gary Radford & Sons
Donors of the wonderful items we received.

Again we raised significant funds with the silent auction, live auction, wine wall and raffles.

Who attended? 208 including many Widows, their families, Legatees and their friends, business people, Our Patron, The Governor and Mrs Le (who judged the ladies’ fashion parade) and many others.

Why did we run Race Day again? Behind each member of the Australian Defence Force who risks everything, there is ‘a family’ doing the same, and Legacy continues to assist the families of today’s Australian Defence Force personnel who give their lives or their health as a result of serving their country ever suffers financial or social disadvantage.

With the continued deployment of our ADF personnel it means that Legacy’s task of supporting their families will continue well into the future.
Legacy needs your continuing support. We want to see you and yours in November 2018.

Legacy Great Ocean Road Walk

Legacy South Australia is undertaking a unique event this year during Legacy Week to raise public awareness of the mission of Legacy but also to raise much needed funds. Legacy is a not-for-profit and although they do receive some government funding, they need to raise 95% of their annual funding.

This year, Legacy's Pensions Manager, Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Ian Kennedy, and his second son, Nicholas Kennedy will undertake to walk the Great Ocean Road over a period of 5-6 days - a distance of approximately 100 kilometres.

A short background on why Ian has decided to attempt this: Ian is a third generation service member, his father served in WWII, Korea, and Malaya and returned home very much damaged, and his mother, who also served during the Second World War, cared for her husband for many years and sometimes under very difficult conditions. Ian has served his country for 41 years, his wife has served for 30 years and their eldest son is a current serving member who is currently deployed in defence of his country.

They are hoping that this walk will not only raise money for Legacy but also help people understand the story behind why Ian and his son Nicholas are undertaking this commitment, which is to remember that the widows/ widowers of Veterans are often forgotten and yet their service is equally important and recognition of their quiet and dedicated commitment and understanding of those who have returned must never be forgotten.

You can donate to this worthy cause by going to:

Unfortunately, due to a medical emergency, Ian and his son have had to postpone the walk for one week. The walk will now commence on 2nd September, not 28th August as stated above.

Ian and his son Nicholas have had to postpone the Great Ocean Road walk due Nicholas’s ill health. Nicholas is still undergoing tests to determine exactly what the issue is, but his specialist doesn’t want him doing anything physical for at least two months. Of course, Ian doesn’t want to do the walk without him and is devastated that they were unable to do it on the advised date.
Ian and Nicholas hope to be doing the walk late November or early December. Ian will keep us advised and, once the dates are confirmed, will post lots of pictures of the them doing the walk together.
Thank you for your support and understanding.

To all our loyal followers and other interested people, you will be very pleased to note that Ian and Nicholas are now set to do the Great ocean walk starting on Saturday the 26 Nov 06 and finishing on Friday 2 Dec, Nicholas has had confirmation from his specialist that his health issue has stabilised enough for him to undertake this walk, and he is thrilled that he can now do this fund raising event with his Dad, we are always hoping for more money so please if you haven't donated we would welcome your contribution. To donate please go https://chuffed.org/project/legacy-great-ocean-walk

We would also like to request that you send this message on to family and friend and ask for them to contribute so that the money raised from this event allows for the great work that Legacy does for the families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and for those who suffer from the results of war continue to be looked after.

68th Legacy Mercedes-Benz Adelaide Race Day

Another fantastic day... The 68th Annual Legacy Mercedes-Benz Adelaide Race Day

On behalf of Legacy, I extend my sincere appreciation for your support of, and attendance at the 2016 Legacy Mercedes-Benz Adelaide Race Day.

This event marked SAJC’s 68 consecutive years of support for the Legacy Race Day. This event would not be the growing success that it has become without the support of our Major Sponsor Mercedes-Benz Adelaide, Race Name Sponsors, Purchases of Buy-a-horse, Donors and of course you, our fun loving attendees.

Your support helps Legacy continue the work of providing care and support services throughout South Australia and Broken Hill to the almost 7,000 families of those who have served our country. Legacy is devoted to enhancing the lives of the families of our veterans who have served in war, peacekeeping and humanitarian missions who have died, or become incapacitated either on service or subsequently.

Some 65,000 Australian military personnel have been deployed overseas since Vietnam in conflicts such as East Timor, Iraq, Afghanistan and so many other areas of operational services. That means that Legacy’s task of supporting their families will continue for many decades; Legacy will continue well into the future.

We could not do it without your continued support and we hope you will all take part again in 2017!

Thank you Rob Sandercock & Race Day Committee
