Events - Adelaide Legacy

Legacy is a not-for-profit organisation and although we do receive some government funding, we need to raise 95% of our annual funding through Grants, Sponsorship, Annual Events and Community Support.

A number of events are organised by Legacy, groups and individuals to raise funds to assist Legacy’s work and also increase the awareness of Legacy in the general community.

Please see below to find out what's happening and how you can help.

You can choose to participate in one of our events or create your own. Contact us to register your interest or if you have any questions.

Fundraise for Legacy
Create your own online fundraising page today.

You can support Legacy by organising your own fundraising activity or by participating in an event and choosing Legacy as your preferred charity.

Whether you're thinking of shaving your head, having a garage sale or running in a fun run, you can build your own online fundraising page and ask friends, family and colleagues to support you.

When entering organised events, eg runs, swims, walks etc please consider creating an online fundraising page to support Legacy Club of SA & BH.

Or why not ask for donations to be made in lieu of your birthday, Christmas, wedding or anniversary gift, or in memoriam to remember a loved one, or any other special occasion.

SIGN UP NOW FOR OUR 2020 LEGACY REMEMBRANCE WALK!

Legacy’s Remembrance Walk is a time to reflect, and an opportunity to raise awareness for Legacy, one of Australia’s oldest charities, it's link to the Australian Defence Force and other vital frontline services.

In 2020, Legacy’s Remembrance Walk will remember the sacrifices all our frontline service workers make who have either lost their life or their health during the fires and the pandemic.

Friday 6th November take an hour from your morning to be a part of this unique Remembrance Walk. Starting at the Torrens Parade Ground, meet at 7:15 for a 7:30am; start with a minute’s silence, then follow our amazing Australian Light Horse Brigade mounted troops for a walk of 1.5kms up King William Street, around Government House, to the War Memorial and along the ANZAC Centenary Memorial Walk, to finish with a light Legacy BBQ breakfast and an opportunity to view our exhibition of history... with stories, photos and memorabilia of our Legacy Families.

We welcome School Communities to either attend on Friday 6th November or organise a Remembrance Walk at their own grounds on Wednesday 11th November. We encourage local, country and rural schools to take part and help us make a difference. Legacy can provide guest speakers, with prior notice to speak to the students about Legacy, Remembrance Day and the Military. Want more information click on...

The Legacy Junior Public Speaking Competition -

CANCELLED

Regrettably, due to COVID-19 the 2020 Junior Public Speaking Awards (LJPSA) has been cancelled.

The Legacy Junior Public Speaking Competition (Award) is a national competition conducted through secondary schools and colleges in most parts of Australia. It seeks to contribute to the personal development of 12-14 year olds by encouraging the best use of spoken English. Competitors need to be under 15 years of age on the 1st January in the year of the competition.

The aim of the Award is to enhance students’ oral communication skills and to help people appreciate the ideals of Legacy which are – voluntary service, social justice, caring, personal sacrifice and/or mateship.

Legacy Week: 29th August to 5th September 2020
A different kind of Legacy Week in 2020

Legacy Week is an iconic Australian appeal which was established over 60 years ago to raise awareness and funds for the families of veterans who have given their lives or their health in service to our country.  This year, Legacy Week will take place from August 29 to September 5.

Typically:

- Legacy widow/er(s) and families
- Legatees
- The Australian Defence Force (ADF)
- Australian Army, Navy and Airforce Cadets
- School students
- and other volunteers

play a vital role in supporting Legacy Week, predominately with face to face donation collections on the streets of South Australia and Broken Hill.

However, Legacy Week 2020 will look quite different to previous years, given the current climate nationally and around the world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unfortunately, our streets will be looking a lot barer during Legacy Week 2020.  There will be NO street appeal in CBD, metropolitan or regional areas i.e. no collection of donations or selling of badges and other merchandise to members of the public by our strong cohort of volunteers. Despite this, we will still be shining the spotlight on Legacy’s continued importance in assisting veterans’ families in their time of need!

Instead of rattling tins and collecting gold coin donations, we will be active online to raise awareness for Legacy Week, especially through social media and traditional media coverage.

It is without a doubt that the global pandemic has proven to be difficult for us all, but it has been especially hard for our veterans’ families.

If you are in a position to donate, we would greatly appreciate it.  If you would like to purchase Legacy Week Merchandise, please visit our:

Please follow us on Facebook to keep up to date with our online initiatives

Veterans' families still need your support now more than ever.
