Paul joined the Citizen Military Forces, (now Army Reserve) in early 1960. During over 33 years of active service, Paul enjoyed a number of command, training and administrative appointments, retiring as a Colonel in 1993. Major appointments included, Commander 6th Training Group, Senior Army Reserve Officer Tasmania, Honorary aid-de-camp to the Governor of Tasmania and two Governors – General of Australia, and Regimental Colonel of the Royal Tasmania Regiment. He served in South Vietnam in March/April 1968 and attended the Joint Services Staff College, Canberra in 1984.
Paul is a Fellow Certified Practicing Accountant (FCPA). His civilian appointments have taken him to Papua New Guinea, Sydney, Canberra, Zimbabwe and Hobart. His major appointments included Director Sea Fisheries Tasmania, Director NSW Fisheries. CEO Australian Animal Health Council Canberra and Consultant to the Zimbabwe Government and Chair of the Marine Farming Planning Review Panel Tasmania. He is currently Chairman of the Old Kempton Distillery in Tasmania.
Paul is a current Legatee and past President of Hobart Legacy. He chaired the Hobart Legacy Centenary Planning Committee and was appointed a Director of Legacy Australia in November 2023.
Paul is a Rugby Union enthusiast and now regularly plays lawn bowls.
He has been happily married to Kaye for 62 years and has three adult children and one grandson.
