
Mal Rerden AM CSC has been a Legatee in the Legacy Club of Brisbane since 2014. He served on the Board of the Club from 2016 to 2020 and was President of the Club and Chairman of the Board from 2018 to 2020.
Mal served in the Australian Regular Army for 37 years from 1976 to 2013, serving in the infantry and special forces in his early years. He was Commanding Officer of the 51st Battalion Far North Queensland Regiment in 1996/97. He served on Operation BEL ISI II in Bougainville in 1998, on Operation RAMP in the Middle East in 2006 and on Operation ASTUTE in East Timor in 2006/07 as the Commander of the International Stabilisation Force.
After transitioning from the Army, Mal worked as a management consultant for both Defence and non-Defence companies. From 2016 to 2019 he served on a Private Company Advisory Board as a strategic planning specialist. From 2014 to 2018 he served in the Active Army Reserve as an Administrative Inquiry Officer. Mal retired from all work in 2020.
Mal is a graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon, the United States Marine Corps Command and General Staff College and its School of Advanced Warfighting, and the Joint Services Staff College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Military Studies) from UNSW, a Graduate Diploma from UCQ and a Graduate Diploma of Strategic Studies from UCC.
In 2002 he was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) for service to Land Force development and force structure. In 2008 he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his service in Command in East Timor.
